Hertfordshire wedding venues

Being a photographer, I get to visit some stunning Hertfordshire wedding venues. I often get asked by couples for recommendations for their big day, which got me thinking…

I’ve recently been doing a lot of barn weddings, especially at The Priory near Hitchin, so for this article I thought I would highlight three top picks. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and pretty villages, barns have a rustic charm and feel close to nature. Think about it, before we had stone churches everyone from kings and queens to farm workers would have been married in a wooden structure.

It's no surprise that these magnificent buildings prove to be such a magnetic draw for couples looking to tie the knot. If you are interested in Hertfordshire wedding venue, you are spoilt for choice…

Edworth Manor Farm Barn

A little unadvertised gem! Edworth Manor farm is in the middle of unspoilt beautiful countryside, and close to my heart as its where I held my own wedding reception in July 2022.

Edworth Manor is a working farm in Bedfordshire, near Biggleswade. Not your usual wedding venue and it doesn’t run weddings all year round. It has two beautiful converted barns. Its a real mix of 300 year old charm and modern facilities.

The Main barn is large enough for sit down meals and a dance floor area. It can host a large wedding party for around 150 people. Its a completely blank canvas for you to dress and style how you want. It also has a large field outside for a marquee and outdoor activities as well as kitchens for your caterers to use.

Its really tucked away so you feel like you are your guests are secluded and able to party uninterrupted!

The barn has a limited number of weekends, it doesn’t host weddings all year round so if your interested you will need to get booking quickly!

If your after something completely unique, charming and rustic this is worth a visit.

The Priory, Little Wymondley

Nestled in rolling countryside just outside the market town of Hitchin, the 16th century tithe barn sits in a peaceful and unique setting.

Owned and run by the Hope Family, The Priory is an exclusive-use wedding venue offering couples a relaxed and contemporary atmosphere. The historic barn is licensed for all civil ceremonies and couples are encouraged to include their own individual touches to add to the magic.

The Priory can accommodates up to 180 guests and is perfect for both ceremonies and receptions.

Having done plenty of photoshoots there, I know that the friendly staff will support you every step of the way to ensure you experience the wedding of your dreams.

The Barn, Alswick

On the fringes of the town of Buntingford in the Alswick Hall Estate, this medieval barn looks amazing and is able to host all-inclusive weddings, from the ceremony to the reception.

Set in countryside not far from Stevenage, the renovated barn was opened as a wedding venue in 2017 by Matt and Kay Hamilton-Crook. Their goal was to give each couple a truly unique and personal experience.

Other benefits include exclusive use (so you won’t be bumping into other brides), a lovely courtyard, spacious dressing room, private gardens and on-site glamping. I personally love the wildflower meadow which is perfect for photoshoots. The barn itself can host 220 standing guests.

Coltsfoot Barn, Datchworth

Originally a working livery, renovation work began in 1998 and by 2000 the estate opened as a small, successful hotel and restaurant.

In 2016, the owners decided to concentrate on weddings and have a small, friendly team who aim to offer the ultimate wedding experience. This stunning boutique venue has been lovingly maintained with sympathetic improvements to the historic barn structure.

The venue has a main barn with exposed wooden beams and high ceilings, it's a great space to host your entire wedding. For civil ceremonies, it can seat 120 people with a reception capacity of 180 guests. A buffet breakfast can be served the following morning in the main barn for you and your guests.

Reception drinks can be enjoyed in the beautiful courtyard, which is also a great location for photographs. Other benefits include 15 luxury suites which are elegant and traditionally furnished, while boasting modern, stylish bathrooms.
